Employment Relations Services

HAQ understands the complexities involved in employing people and we have affiliated with NRA to assist members with the best advice and information.

Through our affiliation with NRA, HAQ members receive free telephone advice on all aspects of employment relations, from award classifications and rates of pay to disciplinary action and terminations.  HAQ members also receive free access to wage rates and fact sheets on common employment issues and entitlements.

HAQ members are entitled to discounted rates for representation in unfair dismissal, discrimination or sexual harassment claims, as well as assistance in defendingunderpayment claims or disputes with government over employee entitlements.

Our Functions and Events

HAQ successfully hosts the Hardware Industry Awards.  The aim of the Awards is to recognise member excellence in the hardware industry across both the supply and retail sectors.

HAQ holds seminars, training and networking events throughout the year to provide opportunities for retail and supplier members to come together to discuss relevant industry issues and also provide advice and information to members on a range of topical matters to help with business growth.

HAQ also hosts an annual corporate golf day, which gives suppliers and retailers a chance to network in a relaxed environment.

Building Skills with Retail Training

With a transient and often casual workforce, it becomes difficult and costly to ensure ongoing quality training programs.

The National Retail Institute provides effective means for training and development of staff – from recruitment and skilling of jobseekers to delivering traineeships and up-skilling of existing employees. NRI will work with HAQ members to identify the most appropriate qualification levels and delivery requirements.

Hardware Industry Awards

The HAQ Hardware Industry Awards program actively encourages hardware retailers and suppliers to strive for excellence and create and innovate within their businesses.  The 2011 Hardware Industry Awards attracted close to 100 nominations for 11 categories and the winners were announced at the annual Gala Dinner. Close to 200 hardware representatives gathered to celebrate industry excellence and network at this high profile event.

Through involvement with the 2012 Awards, you will have the opportunity to promote your products and services to HAQ members throughout the 9 months leading up to the event. At the Gala Dinner you will have the opportunity to present an award and network with the key decision makers from Queensland’s major hardware industry suppliers and retailers.

HAQ Golf Day

The HAQ Golf Day is an annual industry event that attracts close to 100 retailers and suppliers of the Hardware Industry and offers a fun networking day out of the office. The 2012 HAQ Golf Day will be held on Thursday the 2nd of August at the Brookwater Golf Club. This is a great opportunity for companies who want to sponsor a hole, provide prizes, and network throughout the game.

Membership costs

The cost of membership ranges between $355 - $495 (plus GST) per annum depending on your store size and the number of stores owned and whether your store is independent or part of a group.  Upon application, your store will be assessed and an appropriate membership fee will be quoted.
